5 large cooking apples
1 cup water
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup sour cream

Quarter apples, peal, and remove cores and stems; place in deep saucepan with water and brown sugar.

Cover and cook for 25 minutes or until apples are soft enough to mash.

When cool, lightly stir in sour cream. Or add raisins and chopped nuts, or a little horseradish.
